Abstract

PURPOSE: To offer a copper-tin alloy, useful as an oilless slide, having a low friction coefficient and a good abrasion-resistance, by letting the Cu-Sn alloy contain controlled amounts of Ti, graphite, Pb, Bi, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The abrasion-resistant copper-tin alloy comprises 1.0W30.0wt% Sn, 0.1W2.0% Ti, 1.0W10.0% graphite, optionally 0.1W30.3% of one or more of Pb and Bi, 0.1W15.0% of one or more of Ni, Ag, Sb, Fe, Mn, Zn and Al, 0.5W 20.0% of two or more of Cr, Si, Ce and La, and the balance being Cu. The alloy is improved in its abrasion-resistance by dispersion of graphite, and a conjunctive lubricating effect is obtained by the coexistence of Pb and graphite or Bi and graphite. In addition, the mechanical strength of the alloy is enhanced by addition of Ni, Ag, Sb, Fe, Mn, Zn, Al, etc., and its resistance to arc damage is achieved by addition of Cr, Si, Ce and/or La.
