Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength of an optical disk by preventing the generation of a scratch which spoils the irradiation state of laser, by forming an inorganic protective layer on a substrate surface where there is no recording layer of the optical disk, and by irradiating the protective layer side with the laser. CONSTITUTION:On one surface of a plastic substrate 1, a recording layer 2 of Te, etc., is formed and on the opposite surface, an inorganic protective layer of SiO2, etc., is formed to >=1,000Angstrom thickness. Laser 6 is focused on the recording layer 2 from the layer 3 side to form a pit. The layer 3 has high mechanical strength and is hard to scratch and even if there is dust, etc., on the layer 3, any obstacle to laser irradiation is not made. Further, deterioration due to the permeation of O2 and H2O into the recording layer 2 is prevented and, specially, those disk single bodies are connected mutually with interposing spacers 7 by forming a hollow part 6 by facing the layers 2 to each other to obtain sandwich structure, thereby obtaining a long-life disk.
