Abstract
PURPOSE:To always form signals of video, sound, etc., into stable and high-precision bits by subjecting a substrate, where a silicon oxide film is provided, to vapour- phase etching in an atmosphere of CF2 gas by an energy beam. CONSTITUTION:On substrate 1, uniform-thickness silicon oxide film layer 3 is formed through stopper layer 2, and recording layer 4 consisting of a photo resistor, etc., is provided. After irradiation of an energy beam such as a laser beam, signal disc 18 where a bit pattern is formed in put into etching room 11 and is subjected to vapour-phase etching. CF4 of a pressure of 0.1 torr or less is led into etching room 11 through valve 14, and recording disc 18 is put on target electrode 15 and is subjected to vapour-phase etching. By controlling the pressure of CF4 gas to a proper value, the signal recording disc and be etched stably.
