Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a disconnection detector which is small-sized and hightweight, and is easily used at the field, by detecting the disconnection of optical fibers by visual inspection in the other end of said fibers through permitting a strong light to make incident into the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 8 to be inspected is inserted into a hole of a fiber guide pipe 7 until it slightly touches the lens surface of an electric bulb 4. When a switch 1 is turned to light a lamp, the light of the bulb 4 is efficiently made incident to the core of the fiber 8 to be inspected through a condenser lens. The incident light is propagated to the remotest end while repecating the total reflection in the fiber 8. When the fiber 8 is sound, the light reaches the remotest end of the optical fiber 8 and it is confirmed visually. If no light is recognized at the remotest end of the fiber 8, or extremely fine light is recognized, some abnormality is generated within the fiber 8, therefore it can be judged as defective.
