Abstract

Two identical coupling members each comprise an optical fibre- containing probe and a slidable probe- gripping collet H (shown in detail in Fig. 2C), the arrangement being such that one probe-gripping collet may be moved (to the position of Fig. 8) to span the abutment between the two probes after the two coupling members have been brought into end contact. The end of the fibre may be flush with the probe or a lens (as shown) may be mounted inside the probe adjacent the end thereof. <IMAGE>
