PURPOSE: To facilitate inspection and to shorten the time of the inspection by detecting a connection loss value of standard optical fiber and optical fiber to be inspected.
CONSTITUTION: Standard optical fiber 2 in the shape for the upper limit of standards on inspection and standard optical fiber 4 in the shape for the lower limit are prepared. Standard optical fiber 2 is connected to photodetector 5 to read the value of indicator 6 at that time. Next, one end of inspected optical fiber 7 is connected to light source 1 via standard optical fiber 2 and V-groove connector 3, and the other end to photodetector 5 to read the current value of indicator 6, thereby calculating a connection loss. Then, after inspected optical fiber 7 is connected between light source 1 and photodetector 5 to read the current value of indicator 6, inspected optical fiber 7 and standard optical fiber 4 are connected via V-shaped connector 3 to read the current value of indicator 6, thereby calculating the connection loss.
