Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid level detecting sensor of less light propagation by sticking the end parts of plural optical fibers having core and clads by fusion to one body thereby forming a spherical part. CONSTITUTION:The end parts of two pieces of optical fibers 3, 4 aligned to parallel are stuck by fusion to one body, whereby a spherical part 5 is formed to the stuck part. The fibers 3, 4 consits of cores 6, and clads 7 having a refractive index smaller than that of the cores 6. If the optical fibers consituting the liquid level detecting sensor are constituted in this way, some of the light propagating from the fiber partly leaks to the outside in the route of an arrow B3, but if the spherical part 5 is so formed that the tangent at the top end of said part goes parallel to the maximum angle theta3 of the spread of the light emitting when the radius of curvature of the part 5 is cut at the plane perpendicular to the fibers 3, 4, the quantity of the light entering the core 6 of the fiber 3 in the route of an arrow B1 increases.
