CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate 21 coated with a transparent conductive film 22, e.g, SnO2 or the like is disposed in a depositing device 25, low gas containing oxygen is introduced into the device 25, and the II-VI group compound 28 is deposited (including sublimation) in a crucible 36 in the low pressure gas atmosphere. In this manner, the photoelectric conversion target of an image pickup tube can be formed with preferable light responding characteristics.
