Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered body of a precipitation hardening type nitriding steel with high formability and high matrix strength by mixing powder of a low-C alloy for nitriding with an adequate amount of graphite and sintering the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of a nitriding alloy consisting of, by wt., <0.1% C, ≤1.5% Si, ≤0.8% Mn, 0.5W3% Cr, 0.5W2.0% Mo, 0.2W0.7% V and the balance Fe is prepared by an atomizing method. This alloy powder is mixed with an adequate amount of graphite, molded, and sintered. By this method, surface oxide of the powder is deoxidized during the sintering to give a fine sintered body. The manufacturing process is shortened, and the cost is reduced.
