Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture iron-base machine parts with high strength and high wear resistance by sintering a mixed green compact of alloy steel powder having a prescribed composition and graphite powder by heating and holding in an atmosphere of a reducing gas, and by oil-hardening the hot sintered body immediately after the sintering.
CONSTITUTION: Powdered starting material ≥70wt% of which is ≥1 kind of alloy steel powder contg., by wt., 0.30W8.0% in total of one or more among 0.10W2.3% Mn, 0.10W5.5% Cr and 0.10W7.0% Mo, ≤0.10% Si, ≤0.01% Al, ≤0.01% Ti, ≤0.20% C and ≥1.0% O is prepared. This powdered material is mixed with an adequate amount of graphite powder and compacted. The green compact is heated and held at 1,100W1,200°C in an atmosphere of a decarburizing reducing gas. Thus, deoxidation, alloying of carbon of the graphite powder and sintering are allowed to proceed, and simultaneously decarburization is performed to form a hypoeutectoid region with alloyed carbon at the surface part and a hyper-eutectoid composition with alloyed carbon at the central part. The hot sintered body immediately after the sintering is oil- hardened and tempered at ≤250°C as required to manufacture the titled sintered machine parts.
