Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a hearth roller excellent in heat resistance and seizure resistance, by applying the hard facing by welding of a powder composed principally of chromium carbide and cobalt to the barrel surface of a roller body by a powder plasma welding method. CONSTITUTION:By using a powder having a composition which consists of 40-70% Cr, 20-50% Co, 2-7% C, 1-20% Mo+W, and <=0.5% other inevitably mixing impurities and to which 0.05-15%, in total, of Ni and iron and 0.5-5%, in total, of Si and Mn are added, if necessary, build-up welding is applied to the barrel surface of a roller body by a powder plasma welding method. Further, a material excellent in various characteristics, such as strength under a high- temp. environment, is used as the base material for roller, and the thickness of a composite hard faced layer composed principally of chromium carbide and cobalt is regulated to about 3-5mm. By this method, the hearth roller free from the seizure phenomenon of scales in a reducing furnace and excellent in resistance to heat and wear can be obtained.
