Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a ferro-sintered parts having a pressure resistance as well as improved air-tightness and lubricity by a method in which a powder molding is subjected to a solutionizing treatment and then to two-time steam treatment with the interposition of machining.
CONSTITUTION: A powder molding of an iron steel material is subjected to a solutionizing treatment, during which treatment the molding is sintered. The molding so treated is then subjected to steam treatment in such a way as to give an air- tightness to the molding as well as to form oxides in the pores of the molding. Then, the molding is machined to a necessary dimension and shape and also to remove oxide film formed on the surface of the molding. Then, the molding is again subjected to steam treatment so as to form oxide film on the surface of the sintered molding in order to raise its lubricitiy and wear resistance. This method is applicable to the manufacture of sintered parts, e.g., the cylinder blocks of plunger type oil-pressure pump, etc.
