Abstract
PURPOSE: To stabilize ejection pressure in the slit opening of a nozzle and to facilitate the operations of starting, interrupting and stopping production by providig an intermediate well tank between a heating and melting furnace for molten metal and the nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: When a metallic base material is melted in a heating and melting furnace 1, prescribed heating and melting are accomplished by closing between the inside of the furnace 1 and a conduit 3 by a float 5. thence, while the supply gaseous pressue P1 in the furnace 1 is being intermittently increased, the control gaseous pressure P2 in a pressure regulating chamber 8 is instantaneously increased up to a prescribed value to reverse the gaseous pressure values P1, P2. Then, the float 5 detaches upward from the top end port of the conduit 3 and the molten metal in the furnace 1 is supplied via the conduit 3 into an intermediate well tank 4. If the pressure P1 is increased up to a value in excess of the pressue P2, the rate of supply from the furnace 1 into the tank 4 is determined, and the molten metal supplied into the tank 4 is transferred into a nozzle 11 with a rise in the molten metal level. It is ejected onto the surface of a cooling roll 12 by the pressure of the pressure P2 through the slit opening.
