Abstract
PURPOSE: To foresee breakout without false recognition by fluctuations in casting conditions in a normal time by determining the quantity of heat extracted from the molten metal poured between the walls of a mold from the inlet and outlet side temps. and flow rate of the cooling water flowing in the walls of the continuously casting mold.
CONSTITUTION: Inlet and outlet side water temp. detection signals are inputted to subtractors 11, 13 by thermometer pairs 7, 8 of the connecting pipe pair 5 of the cooling water path pair 4 of a mold wall pair 2. The detection signals of the flowmeter pair 9 of the pair 4 and the signals of the subtractors 11, 13 are inputted to multipliers 12, 14, and Qa, Qb are outputted respectively as minuend and subtracter signals to a subtractor 15. The output ΔQ of the subtractor 15 is inputted to a comparator 16, but when it exceeds the upper limit set value thereof (for example, the burn-on of a solidified shell occurs in the wall 2a), a breadout foresee signal BOH is outputted. If it lowers below the lower limit value (for example, the burn on of the solidified shell occurs in the wall 2b), the same signal BOL is outputted. The similar outputs of the front and rear mold walls are also inputted to an OR gate 18, and the drawing of the ingot is stopped by the signal BO.
