Abstract
PURPOSE: To stop casting temporarily or to decrease casting speed and to prevent the generation of breakout by detecting the breakdown of a solidified shell from the abrupt rise in the temp. in the prescribed position in the wall of a mold.
CONSTITUTION: Thermocouples are buried in the position by ≥20mm and ≤700mm than the melt level in a mold at ≥1mm and ≤30mm under the surface of the inside wall and the temp. T is measured therewith. The temp. is compared with the reference values obtd. by adding the prescribed values ku1, ku2, etc. corresponding to casting conditions to the time series smoothed value of the steady indicating temps. of the temp. T. The breakdown of the solidified shell of the cast steel is detected when the readings of the T per period of prescribed sampling pulses exceed the reference values by prescribed values. At the point of the time when the breakown is detected, the drawing of the cast steel is stopped or decelerated and the drawing is performed after waiting for the formation of the shell. The detection and decision of abnormality and the indication of casting operations are accomplished respectively by means of a microcomputer.
