Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain ideal continuous casting by detecting the rates of elongation of long side blocks precisely reflecting the states of molten metal and solified shell, and controlling cooling water in such a manner that the detected values coincide with target elongation values. CONSTITUTION:In an assembled mold for continuous casting consisting of long side blocks 1 and short side blocks 2, noncontacting type displacement meters 3 are provided on both side end faces of the blocks 1. During pouring, the meters 3 detect the rates of horizontal elongation of the blocks 1, and output the detection signals thereof as displacement signals DELTAl1, DELTAl2 via an operational amplifier 5. These displacement signals are added to DELTAl1+DELTAl2 by an adder 6, and are outputted as the rates of elongation of the blocks 1 to a comparator 7. The comparator 7 is inputted with the DELTAl1+DELTAl2 and the target elongation value DELTAl0 from a setter 8, and outputs the differential signal DELTAl thereof to cooling water and hot water gain setters 9, 10, thereby controlling the cold water in the cold water pipes 11 and the hot water in the hot water pipes 12 between the inside and outside walls of the mold.
