Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain ideal continuous casting by detcting the rates of inclined displacements of short side blocks precisely reflecting the states of molten metal and solidified shell, and controlling cooling water in such a manner that the detected values conincide with target rates of inclined displacements. CONSTITUTION:In an assembled mold for continuous casting consisting of long side blocks 1 and short side blocks 2, angle of inclination detectors 3 are provided on the outside surfaces of the blocks 2. During pouring, the detectors 3 detect the rates of inclined displacements of the blocks 2 and output the detection signals thereof as rates of inclined angle displacements DELTAalpha1, DELTAalpha2 to an average value operator A via an operational amplifier 4. A comparator 6 compares the average displacement signal (DELTAalpha1+DELTAalpha2)/2 outputted from the operator A and the target displacement value DELTAalpha0 from a setter 5, and outputs the differential signal DELTAalpha thereof to cold water and hot water gain setters 7, 8, thereby controlling the cold water in the cold water pipes 9 and the hot water in the hot water pipes 10 between the inside and outside walls of the mold.
