Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high strength steel softening HAZ slightly and causing no local deformation at HAZ by working after welding by preparing a steel contg. a specified percentage of C, Si, Mn and Cr and having a specified relation between the specified Ceq and the tensile strength of the base metal.
CONSTITUTION: A high strength steel consisting of 0.02W0.15% C, ≤2.0% Si, 0.1W2.0% Mn, ≤1.0% Cr and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities or further contg. 0.005W0.05% Nb is prepared. The relation between the Ceq defined by Ceq=C+Si/24+Mn/6+Cr/5 (the amount of each component is represented by wt%) and the temsile strength TS (kg/mm2) of the base metal is regulated to TS≤ 25+100Ceq or TS≤25+100Ceq+250Nb (wt%). Thus, the occurrence of local deformation at HAZ by working after welding can be prevented.
