Abstract

PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain high strength steel of superior weldability by rolling a steel contg. specific amounts of C and Mn at above specific temp., and coiling the same at controlled rates of cooling.
CONSTITUTION: The steel consisting of 0.02%≤C≤0.15%, 0.1%≤Mn<0.5% and the balance iron and unavoidable impurities, and, if necessary, further contg. ≤0.015% S, Zr at 2≤Zr/S≤10 or REM at 1.3≤REM/S≤5, or Ca at 0.5≤Ca/ S≤1.5 is produced. This steel is rolled at above Ar3, is cooled at ≥10°C/sec cooling rates from above Ar3, and is coiled at ≤200°C. By this method, the steel plate which has tensile strength and ductility of a 40, 50kg/mm2 class and is superior in spot weldability is obtained at hot rolled at a relatively low cost. This method makes up the tensile strength produced by low Ceq hot rolling conditions while improving welding strength by maintaining low Ceq.
