Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably obtain the title high-tensile steel having <=85% yield ratio and >=50kgf/mm<2> tensile strength and further high toughness by heating a low alloy steel slab to control the austenite grain size to less than a prescribed value, hot-rolling, cooling, and then annealing the steel in a specified temp. range. CONSTITUTION:A low alloy steel is heated to 950-1,250 deg.C, and firstly rolled at >=30% draft at a temp. range >=100 deg.C higher than the Ar3 point to control the austenite grain size to <=No.5. The sufficiently refined austenite is rolled at 10-60% draft at a temp. range from the Ar3 point to the temp. less than 100 deg.C higher than the Ar3 point in accordance with the desired yield ratio and tensile strength. The finish-rolled steel is then air-cooled for 10-80sec, and then cooled to <=500 deg.C at a cooling rate higher than the air cooling. The cooled steel is annealed, as required, in the temp. range 400 deg.C-Ac1 point, and the desired high-tensile steel having a low yield ratio is obtained.
