Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a steel plate which has desired yield strength and has a low yield ratio and good toughness in combination by heating a steel specified in the contents of C, Si, Mn, and V to a specific temp. range and hot rolling this steel, then tempering the steel after rapid cooling down to a specific temp. range. CONSTITUTION:The steel consisting, by weight, 0.05-0.20% C, 0.05-0.75% Si, 0.30-2.20% Mn, 0.001-0.100% V, 0.005-0.080% solAl, <=0.01% N, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities is smelted and is made into a slab. This steel slab is heated to a 1,000-1,250 deg.C temp. range and is hot rolled; in succession, the steel sheet is rapidly cooled at >=2.5 deg.C/sec cooling rate in the central part of the plate thickness from the Ar3 point or above. The rapid cooling is stopped in a 600-200 deg.C temp. range and the steel plate is tempered to the temp. below the Ac1 point. One or more than one kinds of Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo, Nb, B, and Ti are incorporated at adequate ratios or above at need into this steel compsn. The high tensile steel plate for buildings which is applicable to high-rise buildings and has less residual stresses is thereby stably produced.
