Abstract

PURPOSE: To continously manufacture single crystals each having a prescribed length in succession by continuously growing a single crystal by a rotating and pulling method without separating it from a melt, controlling prescribed parts of the crystal to a small diameter, and cutting the parts.
CONSTITUTION: The end of a single crystal 1a pulled up from a melt 2 with a pulling shaft 4 is made thin by controlling the temp. of the melt 2 without separating the crystal 1a from the melt 2, and the thin part is used as a seed crystal for the next crystal body 1b as it is. By repeating the operation, crystal bodies are connected in succession. The side of the crystal body 1b cooled close to room temp. is supported with a supporting device 14a provided with a mechanism which rotates in synchronism with the shaft 4 on the same central axis and moves on the same speed. The part having the small diameter between the crystal bodies 1a, 1b is then cut with a laser 16, and the body 1a is detached from the shaft 4 and recovered. When the pulling of the crystal proceeds furthermore, the crystal body 1c is supported with a similar supporting device 14b, and the crystal body 1b is recovered by similar operation. Crystal bodies are recovered in succession.
