Abstract

PURPOSE: To miniaturize a water washing and absorbing apparatus by a method wherein the SO2 component of an exhaust gas containing NO is adjusted to a specific range and conversion to NO2 is accelerated by an alkaline aqueous solution of sodium chlorite and oxidative adsorption of NO is promoted by coexistence of NO and SO2.
CONSTITUTION: A 0.5W10% sodium chlorite aqueous solution is used when NOx in a combustion gas after boiler heating reaches a predetermined value or more by the change of an operating condition but, generally, a part of the gas to be treated is taken to control an SO2 gas content to 10W30ppm and the controlled exhaust gas issued from an SOx desulfurizing tower is washed by the 0.5W10% sodium chlorite aqueous solution. For example, when the controlled exhaust gas contg. 190ppm NOx is washed by an 4% sodium sulfite aqueous solution in a recirculation water system, said gas is discharged in such a condition that NOx therein from the tower top is reduced to about 20ppm. If SO2 coexists in the controlled exhaust gas, a NOx absorbing rate is accelerated.
