Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides from the exhaust gas efficiently by a method wherein an absorption desulfurization step and a nitrification step are connected directly to each other and an appropriate alkali is added in both steps when treating the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas is fed into an absorption desulfurizer 3, where SO2 in the gas is absorbed by a washing liquid such as an aqueous solution of ammonium sulfite which is sprinkled from a pipe 11. The washing liquid containing the used acidic ammonium sulfite is taken out via a pipe 10, the ammonia is added so as to convert the acidic ammonium sulfite into ammonium sulfite, which is recirculated and a portion thereof is used as an impregneating liquid for a catalyst layer 6 of a denitrificator 4. The exhaust gas coming out from the desulfuizer 3 is fed into the denitrificator 4, where the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas are brought into reaction with the oxygen in the exhaust gas in the presence of an activated carbon catalyst to form NO2, which is further reduced by ammonium sulfate to produce nitrogen gas and ammonium sulfate. A desorption liquid containing the ammonium sulfate is discharged to the outside of the system.
