Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the velocity of a desulfurizing reaction in a wet exhaust gas desulfurizing method, and to improve a rate of removal of a sulfur oxide, by a method wherein exhaust gas is successively contacted with a sulfuric acid water solution with comparatively high concentration and said water solution with low concentration.
CONSTITUTION: A two stage system desulfurizing tower T-2 is used which consists of the first stage tower portion A for circulating the first absorbing medium with the high concentration of sulfuric acid and the second stage tower portion B for circulating the second absorbing medium with the low concentration of sulfuric acid, and oxidizing catalysts which the first and the second absorbing media contain are separatedly regenerated at the first regenerating tower portion a and the second regenerating tower portion b of a regenerating tower T-3 and the media are circulated. Exhaust gas which is introduced into a washing concentrating tower T-1, contacted with a sulfuric acid water solution and dust, heavy metal salt, etc. are removed is induced to the bottom of the desulfurizing tower T-2 from a line 2, and contacted with the first and the second absorbing media in this order, sulfur compounds which the exhaust gas contains are removed in succession, and the exhaust gas purified is discharged through a line 3 from a top of the tower. Meanwhile, a solution containing sulfuric acid being formed is returned to the tower T-1, and the solution is concentrated and extracted from a line 16.
