Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively remove NOx at a low cost by bringing a NOx-contg. gas into contact with a predetermined reactive agent in the presence of oxygen to convert the Nox into N2 and NO2, and then removing the NO2.
CONSTITUTION: A NOx-contg. gas is brought into contact with a reactive agent made of urea, alcohol or their mixt. in the presence of oxygen to carry out vapor phase reduction, thereby reducing part of the NOx to N2 and converting the remainder into NO2 gas. Next, the NO2 gas undergoes vapor-liquid contact with an aq. soln. of urea to be decomposed into N2 gas, or with an aq. soln. of an alkaline absorbent to be removed by absorption. By use of the absorbent, sulfur oxides can be absorbed simultaneously. The above vapor phase reduction may be carried out in the presence of steam.
