Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove simultaneously SOx and NOx effectively by adding an oxidizing agent to waste gas containing SOx and NOx, absorbing SOx and NOx by a specified waste liquid containing copper ion and treating the resulting liquid in an accomplished COG desulfurization waste liquid treatment stage.
CONSTITUTION: Waste gas containing SOx and NOx from sintering furnace, coke oven, etc. is passed through a line 3 into an oxidizing stage 4 where NO is oxidized with ozone from a line 5 to NO2. Then in an absorption stage 9, the gas is contacted with a waste liquid which is obtained by adding a copper ion from a line 8 to COG desulfurized decyanogen waste liquid containing thiosulfate, etc. In the adsorption stage the absorption of NOx and SOx is promoted by the presence of copper ion, and simultaneously CN present in the waste liquid is converted to harmless SCN. Cleaned waste gas is discharged through a line 18 to the atmosphere. Part of waste liquid is supplied via a line 24 to COG desulfurization decyanogen waste liquid treating provision 23 where the liquid is treated and the absorbed NOx and SOx components are hydrolyzed to form ammonium ion and sulfate ion.
