Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat the offensive odor gases effectively without generating harmful by-products by a procedure in which ozone is added to the offensive odor gas and then the gas is washed with a chemical liquid.
CONSTITUTION: When the multi-component offensive odor gas 1, consisting of acid, neutral, and alkaline components, is treated, the ozone 3 is first added to the gas 1 from an ozonizer 2 to oxidize the offensively odorous components present, and then passed through the first washing tower 4 filled with the acid liquid 5 and then through the second washing tower 9 filled with the alkaline liquid 10 to cause the neutralization reaction of the offensively odorous components to take place. By such a method involving an effective combination of ozone-oxidation method and a chemical liquid-washing method and also the reaction of waste ozone with by-products formed in the washing with a chemical liquid, the offensive odor gases can be effectively treated without generating harmful substances.
