Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the cyanide component in a waste gas easily within a short time by a method wherein the waste gas containing dust and the cyanide component is contacted with a treating agent to decompose the cyanide component and, after this treatment, subjected to wet dust collection.
CONSTITUTION: While a gas obtained by mixing a gas containing 500mg/Nm3 cyanide component, a gas containing 5mg/Nm3 hydrogen sulfide and 1g/Nm3 of an iron fine powder in a gas based on N2, O2, CO2 or the like is passed through a container 3 from an introducing port 1, a cyanide treating agent is sprayed into said gas from a treating agent supply pipe 8. As the cyanide treating agent, a chlorine type, a hydrogen peroxide type or an ozone type oxidizing agent or a formaldehyde type reducing agent are used to decompose the cyanide component. The use amount thereof is made equal to that of a conventional method wherein the cyanide treating agent is not added to an exhaust gas prior to washing and added to waste water after washing.
