Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat concurrently an ammonia-containing waste gas and a combustion exhaust gas effectively for making them harmless by a procedure in which both the ammonia-containing waste gas and the combustion exhaust gas are subjected to the same absorption treatment and the ammonium carbonate solution formed then is used in the treatment of the combustion exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: A basic waste gas containing ammonia from a catalytic oxidation tank 2 and an acid exhaust gas from an incinarator 3 are jointly sent to the absorption apparatus 5 and 6, where calcium carbonate is formed and absorbed in absorption liquid. The absorption liquid is then collected in a tank 7 and when its concentration reaches a certain concentration, the liquid is atomized into the incinerator 3, whereupon the calcium carbonate is easily decomposed, resulting in denitrification of nitrogen oxides formed and then reactions with hydrogen chloride present in a flue. Thus, binary waste gas can be effectively treated.
