Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve a constantly fixed rate of desulfurization irrespective of variations in exhaust gas conditions by a method wherein a gas flow rate detector and a sulfur oxide concentration detector are provided in a line for introducing exhaust gas into an absorption column, and the amount of an absorbent slurry introduced into the column is controlled based on the detection signals of the detectors.
CONSTITUTION: The absorption column 7 is provided with sprayers arranged in one or more stages, and the absorbent slurry such as a slurry of lime or the like is sprayed from the sprayers. The slurry thus sprayed are brought into contact with the exhaust gas containing sulfur oxides and being fed into the column 7 after pressurized by a fan 1, so that the sulfur oxides in the gas are removed. In such a device, the gas flow meter 12 and the sulfur oxide concentration detector 13 are provided between the fan 1 and a cooling tower 2. The flow meter sends a detection signal of gas flow rate to a flow control valve 16, while the detector 13 sends a detection signal of the sulfide oxide concentration to a flow control valve 17, and the amount of the absorbent slurry fed from a circulating tank 8 is controlled.
