Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the automatic direction judging in a simple constitution, by scanning light receiving arrays which are obliquely arranged with respect to the advancing direction of an object to be checked, measuring brightness signals on both right and left sides based on the detection of the object to be checked, thereby determining the advancing direction. CONSTITUTION:At an entrance path 1b of a building and the like wherein an entering side and exit side are not separated, a detecting line L which is obliquely formed with respect to the advancing direction of the object to be checked M such as a man and the like by the light receiving elements P1.... When said line L is scanned and a part of the object to be checked M crosses the line L, the detected outputs from the corresponding element P1... become lower than a reference output. The detected position on the line L is stored in an RAM 7 that is controlled by a CPU 6, through a binary coded comparator 4, an edge detecting circuit 5, and the like. The brightness signals, which are divided into the right and left sides and correspond to the scanning of the elements P1..., with said detected position as a reference, are measured. The right and left computations are performed in a right computing circuit 8 and a left computing circuit 9 through the CPU 6. Both computed values are compared by a comparator 10, and the advancing direction of the object to be checked M can be automatically judged in a simple constitution.
