Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an apparatus high in the resolution and durability with limited power by extracting variations in a pulse light projected to an object based on the incidence of the reflected light spot from the output of a position detector adapted to form the image of the reflected light spot so arranged to enable continuous detection. CONSTITUTION:A position detectror is arranged at the point where the reflected light spot of a pulse light projected on an object forms an image to continuously detect the direction at which the position of the incidence of the reflected light spot changes with the variation in the distance of the object. A detection circuit is provided to obtain signals corresponding to the distance of the object by only extracting variation in the pulse light based on the incidence of the reflected light spot thereof from the output of the detection from the position detector. For example, the reflected spot forms an image at points 5a-5d of the position 7a to an infinite value of the object 7 and the position thereof is detected from the rate of the output of two currents. The effect of a normal light is removed by the detection circuit 9.
