Abstract

PURPOSE: To make position detection high-reliablity and simple, by projecting a laser beam to a target and by focusing the spot image onto a photelectric conversion element arranged in a linear direction and by calculating the position of the target on a basis of the detection signal from the conversion part.
CONSTITUTION: Spot 19 on target 18 of beam 12 of He-Ne or semiconductor laser 11 is focuased onto point 110 of photo diode 13 arranged linearly by lens 13. The photodiode is arranged in the plane formed by optifal axis of lens 13 and laser beam 12. By detecting distance (s) between point 110 and intersection 17 between the photodiode and the optical axis, distance (h), namely, position Z-h of the target is detected. Scanner 111 scans the photodiode by pulses of synchronizing pulse generator 112 to detect the position of point 110, and the position is calculated through comparison pulse generator 113 and comparator 114 by distance measuring equipment 115. Consequently, the position can be detected simply with a high reliablity.
