CONSTITUTION:A projector 1 and a photosensor 2 using a one-dimensional image sensor camera are installed at a proper space between them, and an object 4 of measurement can be moved on a rail smoothly between them. An output of a shadowed one of photoelectric elements 5 on the surface of the photosensor 2 is converted to be an electric quantity of low level, while an output of a light-irradiated one of them is converted to be an electric quantity of high level, and binary-coded signals thus obtained are inputted to a counter 6. When the object 4 of measurement moves across the photosensing field of the photosensor 2, a change occurs in the quantity of light second by the photosensor 2. This change is caught and processed by the counter 6 and a processing unit 10, and the direction of the object 4 of measurement is discriminated on the basis of it.
