Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect not only the original sizes but also whether original position is normal or not through addition of slight circuits without providing any separate switch by counting the continuous black values from the sanning end in scanning width by an image sensing element.
CONSTITUTION: For the origianl 1 placed on contact glass 2 and pressed by a pressure plate 3, the reflected light from a lighting system is imaged on a solid-state image sensing element 5 through a lens 4. The solid-state image sensing element 5 which is of line sensor type using CCDs produces charges according to the quantity of incident light through selfscanning. The charges are then once stored in the transfer path and the photo electric conversion signal is time serially produced by the transfer clock. In the separately provided read part, the sampling pulses synchronized to the clock pulses having scanned the original 1 are counted starting from the black value at the end part of the original to detect the original width Wp. From the subtracted value from the scanning width Wc, the original size and whether the original is in the normal position or not is judged.
