Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a focus easily by a simple circuit by supplying an image signal obtained from an image to a window comparator and then processing it. CONSTITUTION:Light from a subject 1 is supplied to a CCD image sensor 3 through a lens 2 to output an image signal ea which corresponds to an image inputted to a photodetection surface. The image signal is supplied to a window comparator W to be converted into a binary signal, thereby outputting a signal ed which corresponds to the image signal ea present between two slice levels of the comparator W. Then, the pulse width of the signal ed is counted by a counter 10 with a clock signal from a clock oscillator 4. When the image is out of focus, the count value is large and when in-focus, the count value is small, so the position of the lens 2 is adjusted so that the count value is minimized. Thus, a focus is detected easily by the simple circuit.
