Abstract

PURPOSE:To inspect the internal defects of weld zones and the like of objects to be examined having a number of kinds of lengths automatically by positioning and setting gates to the inspecting positions of the respective objects to be examined according to the detected lengths. CONSTITUTION:When a starting switch 8 is turned on, a start signal (b) is fed to a detecting switch 4, and the length of a rear axle shaft 1 is detected by contactless sensors 4a-4d, thence gates G1, G2 are set in a gate positioning means 62 in a control box 6 by said box. On the other hand, at the point of the time when the shaft 1 is disposed in a prescribed position, a contactless switch 9 transmits a flaw detection start signal (d) to the control box 6, thereby starting the flaw detection. The ultrasonic reflection waves from the shaft 1 are received via a probe 2 in an oscillation part 5. Whether this flaw detection signal (f) is higher than the height of the 1st gate G1 or lower than the 2nd gate G2 is decided by a decision means 63, and the result of the decision is displayed in a display means 7. Thereby, the reduction in the time for inspection and saving of manpower are made possible.
