Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a highly sensitive detection of a flaw by a creeping wave flaw detection method, by performing a detection of an internal flaw on a steel pipe void of a weld bead such as seamless pipe and seam-welded pipe by a transverse wave or longitudinal wave angle beam flaw inspection method to bring an angle of roof of a probe above a specified value in the detection of an outer surface flaw. CONSTITUTION:A probe 10 for transverse wave angle beam flaw detection and a probe 11 with the angle of roof for creeping wave flaw detection above 3 deg. are arranged in contact with a seamless pipe 7. With the probes 10 and 11 fixed, the pipe 7 is advanced straight in rotation. An internal flaw of the pipe 7 is detected with the probe 10, and its external flow with the probe 11. This brings the angle of roof of the probe 11 above 3 deg. to improve the S/N ratio, thereby enabling a short-range detection of flaws at a high sensitivity with respect to a steel pipe with a remarkable attenuation of ultrasonic waves.
