Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a flaw of an shallow part and that of an deep part of a long size steel material at the same time, by arranging a probe for detecting the flaw of the shallow part and that of the deep part side by side to the axis direction of the materials to be detected. CONSTITUTION:A long size steel material sent to a flaw detection table is stopped at a prescribed position, and while rotating it a flaw detection machine providing with a probe of an ultrasonic flaw detection machine for the deep part and that of a leakage magnetic flux flaw detection machine for the shallow part, is moved along the long size steel material. Then, a flaw signal of the deep part of the long size steel material is sent to a memory device 41 from an ultrasonic flaw inspection machine 37. The flaw signal of the shallow part is sent to an apparatus 41 from a leakage magnetic flux flaw detection machine 39 in the same way. On the one hand, corresponding position of the flaw is entered the apparatus 41 by a signal from an angle detector 43 and a length detector 42. When the flaw detection of the defects is completed, the position of the flaw of the long size steel material is marked by markers 45, 47. The long size steel material completed the marking is set to a isolation apparatus and defective material is isolated by a signal from a material distinction indication circuit 49.
