Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to accurately detect a flaw over the whole surface of a steel strip up to its end edge by using the construction of a mechanism for holding a tire flaw detecting element and a guide table device for stabilizing the scanning path of the flaw detecting element.
CONSTITUTION: A tier flaw detecting element 1 can be moved vertically by a cylinder 21, to the right and left together with a transverse block by a screw shaft 32 and to the back and forth by a rail 33 and can be turned together with a holding unit 22 by a reversing motor 23 and a gear mechanism 24. Those movements can be performed solely or in a composed manner. By feeding the pulse signals, which are based upon a preset value, from a controller to a motor or cylinder, the element 1 is moved back and forth, sideway, in the opposite direction and vertically so that the inspections of the surface of a test piece can be sufficiently accomplished to the limit of the end edge. Thus, it is possible to accomplish the whole surface flaw detection in a full-automatic manner and to quantitatively evaluate the flaw.
