Abstract

PURPOSE: To inspect flaws in a material without destruction by using a means which outputs a reference signal having a fixed time-level characteristic, and changing the reference signal at every fixed number of scanning.
CONSTITUTION: Provided is a level setting means 5 set to generate a reference signal having an echo level curve along the characteristic curve of the propagation distance in material determined by the ultrasonic wave propagation distance in material. An ultrasonic probe member 1 is placed contacting with a material M, and an ultrasonic wave is transmitted. The received ultrasonic signal is sent to a defect probe 3 to draw an ultrasonic reflected echo, which is sent to an echo level judgement means 4, in which the reflected echo is compared with the reference signal from the level setting means 5. Every a fixed number of scanning, the reference signal is changed by varying the whole level by a fixed degree, so that the comparison level with the reflected echo is varied. Thus, even a flow having a low reflected echo level is sooner or later detected and displayed, so that the judgement accuracy can be improved.
