  • Investigating Or Analyzing Materials By The Use Of Ultrasonic Waves (AREA)

Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the defects in the specimen to be readily detected with high sensitivity by transmitting the ultrasonic waves of different frequencies into the specimen, synchronizing the echo waves thereof and adding the same.
CONSTITUTION: The ultrasonic waves of different frequencies are subsequently transmitted from an ultrasonic wave transducer 11 and the respective echo informations by these ultrasonic waves are synchronized and added 18. The detection signals by the weld lines 8 of a metal material 3 are evened and their maximum crest values are made small. The respective detection signals by defects 4a, 4b and boundary face 3a are multiplied. Hence, the defect detection signals may be made larger than the detection signals by the weld line 8 and the high-sensitivity detection of defects may be readily accomplished.
