Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize the measurement for the thickness of the inner surface coated layer from outside the steel pipe, by carrying out the addition and subtraction between the ultrasonic flaw inspecting output sent from outside the steel pipe having the organic coated layer on the inner surface and the same output of the test piece having the same quality and same thickness as the steel pipe.
CONSTITUTION: The ultrasonic flaw inspecting output is extracted out of the outside of metal 2 having organic coated layer 3 through the 1st measurement system and by applying probe 1. Then the same output is extracted through the 2nd measurement system from test piece 2' having the same quality and same thickness as metal 2. The output signal of the 2nd measurement system is added to the output signal of the 1st measurement system with the phase inverted via phase inverting part 6 and addition part 7 each. Thus the multiple reflected echo group at the junction part between the coated layer and the metal in the signal of the 1st measurement system is offset by the echo group of the 2nd measurement system to eliminate completely the fault caused by the echo. As a result, the minute reflected echo 5' from the back of the coated layer can be detected assuredly and effectively.
