Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the strength of a magnetic tape accurately and prevent the damages produced during traveling by exerting pressing force upon the side end part of a magnetic tape piece, and measuring the buckling load of the time when the magnetic tape piece is crushed by this pressing force. CONSTITUTION:A round hole 4 of roughly the same diameter as that of a guide roller of, for example, a magnetic recorder and reproducer is formed to an upper plate 1 of the measuring device, and a screw hole is formed to a lower plate 2 in correspondence to the position of said hole 4. A shaft 5 of a diameter smaller than that of the hole 4 is screwed into said screw hole in such a way that its leading end goes roughly flush to the height of the plate 1. Under such conditions, a pressing means 6 is moved, and the buckling load of the time when a ring-like magnetic tape piece 7 is curshed by the means 6 is measured with an automatic balance type recorder. If a magnetic tape of about >=200g buckling load measured in this way is used, the damages of the magnetic tape during traveling are eliminated at all.
