Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily find the spheroidizing ratio of graphite of a sample which is parameter of estimation of the quality of material by giving a ultrasonic pulse signal to the ductile cast iron article of which the quality is to be measured and by measuring a ultrasonic forest-shaped echo signal from the sample to be measured. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic pulse signal is given from a ultrasonic flaw detector 2 to the sample 1 to be measured of the ductile cast iron article, and the ultrasonic forest-shaped echo signal from the sample 1 is delivered to a memory device 3 as a corresponding electric forest-shaped echo signal. Next, an average value is found from the heights of the several forest-shaped echo signals stored by an average value circuit 4, the average value of the height of forest-shaped echo from the average value circuit 4 is converted into the spheroidizing ratio of graphite based on the correlation between the height of forest-shaped echo stored beforehand and the spheroidizing ratio of graphite by a conversion device 5, and the output from the conversion device 5 is indicated as the spheroidizing ratio of graphite by an indication device 6. By this method, even for the ductile cast iron article having indeterminate form, thick wall and large size, the spheroidizing ratio of graphite which is the parameter of the estimation of the quality of material can be measured with ease.
