Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately detect the intensity of knocking, by avoiding the increased amplitude in the sensor output signal accompanied with the production of knocking from a background noise level signal, while knocking is developed.
CONSTITUTION: The output of a knocking sensor 1 is input to a comparator 8 and a rectifier 3 via an amplifier 2 which selects the knocking frequency only and amplifies it. The output of the knocking sensor 1 rectified at the rectifier 3 is input to the comparator 8 via an average circuit 4, sample hold circuit 5, average circuit 6 and amplifier circuit 7. A sample hold circuit 5 holds the output signal of the average circuit 4 at the development of knocking based on a comparison signal obtained from the comparator 8. The pulse train signal from the comparator 8 accurately indicates the knocking intensity.
