Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of breakout by detecting the force acting upon a mold oscillation mechanism and making the casting speed below the specified value when the detection value shows an abnormal value. CONSTITUTION:The strain information measured with the strain gauge 16 affixed to the main shaft 5 of the continuous casting apparatus is amplified in an amplifier 17 and enters a pulse height analyzer 19 and recorder 20 via strain meter 18. The pulse height analyzer 19 so commands an alarm 21 that it emits an alarm when the input from the strain meter 18 becomes more than the specified value and also gives a command to an automatic casting speed control circuit 22 to lower the casting speed automatically down to the specified value. In this way, the breakout may be detected beforehand and the occurrence of the breakout may be prevented.
