Abstract
PURPOSE:To compensate the wear of a tool tip and alarm a tool damage by providing a measuring device to measure the position of the tool tip. CONSTITUTION:A measuring device 12 to detect the tool tip 10a on a tool post 11 is provided and a position where a normal tool tip 10a pushes the measuring device 12 and turns it ON is set as its reference position. When the tool wears, the tool tip 10a becomes shorter and the measuring device 12 is not turned ON any more. In this case, the tool post 11 is moved slowly until the measuring device 12 is turned ON and the number of pulses used for the movement of the tool post 11 is counted. When the wear of the tool tip 10a has not reached the limit value, the tool post is moved in accordance with the pulse number to compensate the tool wear. When the wear of the toll tip 10a has passed the limit, a pulse number over a prescribed number is counted and an alarm is given.
