Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the device particularly suitable for matrix driving by coating an insulation film of SiO2 etc. on the respective transparent electrodes of upper, lower transparent glass substrates, and forming two layers of orientation films thereon with a dielectric such as SiO at a specific different vapor deposition angle and a vapor deposition direction.
CONSTITUTION: Insulation films 5, 6 of SiO2 etc. are formed on the transparent electrodes 3, 4 on upper, lower transparent glass substrates 1, 2. Next, the 1st orientation films 7, 8 are vapor deposited on the films 5, 6 of the substrates 1, 2, with dielectric such as SiO at 0W15° angles against the respective substrate surfaces to 100W700Å film thicknesses respectively in the directions (a), (c), thence the 2nd orientation films 9, 10 are vapor deposited on the layers 7, 8, to thicknesses respectively 1/3W3 times those of the 1st orientation films 7, 8 with SiO etc. in the directions (b), (d) orthogonal to the directions (a), (c), at 15W45° angles against the substrate surfaces. Next, a left wise twisted liquid crystal 11 is injected, after which the substrates are sealed 12, to accomplish the liquid crystal device. In this way, the glass-sealed long-life large-sized liquid crystal display element is easily produced.
